Morden, Soyko, Willan star in Pandas rout of MacEwan

Line combines for 10 points in 6-1 Alberta win

EDMONTON - The forward line of Jadynn Morden, Abby Soyko and Madison Willan combined for four goals and six assists, powering the Alberta Pandas to a 6-1 win over MacEwan on Saturday afternoon.

Morden and Soyko scored twice each, with Willan adding three assists for a Pandas team who earned their sixth win over the Griffins this season. Willan also became just the 13th Panda to record 100 career conference points with her three assists on Saturday.

Izzy Lajoie and Payton Laumbach also scored for Alberta, with Mackenzie Dojahn making 11 saves for her fourth win of the season.

Ali Macaulay scored the only MacEwan goal, while Brianna Sank was tabbed with the loss after allowing four goals on nine shots in the first period, before being pulled for Lindsey Johnson.

With the weekend and season sweep over MacEwan, Alberta sports a division-best 14-3-1 record, while the loss drops the Griffins to 2-13-3.

Soyko opened the scoring for the Pandas, who finished the first 20 minutes with a commanding 4-1 lead. Soyko curled over the left circle, before beating Sank over the shoulder. Lajoie less than two minutes later, beating Sank off a redirected shot off a Grifin shin pad in the slot.

Macaulay cut the Alberta lead in half, sneaking a shot past a screened Dojahn on a Griffins PP. It took only 25 seconds for the Pandas to respond, as Morden beat Sank off a rebound from a Soyko wrist shot. Morden added her second of the period two minutes later, sneaking a shot through Sank's five-hole.

Laumbach potted her second of the season early in the second to extend Alberta's lead even further, before Soyko netted her second of the game in the third to ice the victory.

Alberta will see Calgary for a home-and-home series next weekend, while MacEwan will be on a bye.
