CALGARY - Fourth-year forward
Georgia Tansley scored twice in the second half, powering the Pandas Soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
The win for the Pandas is their second in conference play, improving their Canada West record to 2-2-0. The loss for MRU (1-2-0) is their second in three games in 2021.
The two teams were limited offensively and spent the entirety of the first half battling it out at center field with inconsistent possession going both ways.
Janai Martens changed the tone for MRU after a huge shot to finish the first 45 minutes that was denied by a miraculous diving save from U of A's
Ashley Turner.
Both teams found their groove for the second half, demonstrating more consistent ball control and smoother passes across the field. Cougars keeper Katrina Greenley was able to step up against a more aggressive Panda's performance, putting up an impressive nine saves in the loss.
Tansley finally broke through for the Pandas in the 72nd minute, scoring her first goal of the season in her first match. She would also add the insurance marker in the 81st minute.
The Pandas will be back in action next weekend, when they visit the MacEwan Griffins for a pair of matches at Clarke Stadium.
