Athletics Donor FAQ

  1. Is there a minimum donation amount to be eligible for a tax receipt?
    No there is no minimum amount
     
  2. What do I receive as a donor?
    The University of Alberta is a Charitable Organization, as such Charitable Gifts made to any University of Alberta Fund including the Support the Sport Fund is defined as a voluntary transfer of property (in this case monetary) without valuable consideration to the donor. With all Charitable Gifts, the donor receives a tax receipt from the University of Alberta for the amount of donation.  
    The University of Alberta Canadian charitable registration number, as recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency is 10810 2831 RR0001.
    The University is licensed to operate as a Charitable Organization by the Alberta Government (Licence/Registration Number: 210551).
    Since March 15th, 1983, the University of Alberta has been recognized in the U.S.A. as organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes (exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal revenue Code, Identification Number 98-6001254).
     
  3. I didn't get/lost my tax receipt, how can I get a new one?
    The original tax receipt is sent via email within two weeks after the donation is made, but it often ends up in people's junk mail. We can easily get you a duplicate tax receipt within a couple days.

  4. Are there other ways to give instead of an online credit card transaction?
    Yes there are several ways you can make a donation to Support The Sport.

  5. I made a mistake on which team the donation is in support of, how do I change that?
    No problem - this is an easy fix!

  6. Will the money I donate go directly to the student-athlete?
    No, a donor can direct their gift to a specific team but not to a specific student, as per CRA regulations. 
    Donors can ‘associate’ their donation ‘in support of’ an individual student- athlete, for fundraising goal purposes. However all donations go directly to the team to use as per the Support The Sport Fund Terms. All donations are tracked by the Athletics administrative staff.
     
  7. I forgot to indicate that I want my gift to remain anonymous, how can I do that?
    No problem - this is an easy fix!

  8. Can I give Monthly?
    YES! Monthly contributions can be made through your bank or credit card. You can change the amount or cancel your gift at any time. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt for your gift with receipts mailed once a year in February for your donations from the previous tax year.
     
  9. How do I cancel my monthly donation?

  10. FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES: Can I use my credit card for a donation and have the tax receipt in the name of the person who gave me the cash?
    YES! We just require an email from the true donor to be sent to Stacey Wickman swickman@ualberta.ca indicating their donation was made in cash to you. They need to specify the date they made the donation, their full name for the tax receipt, the amount of the donation.
