Named In honour of Dr. Gerry Glassford, the former Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, the R.G. Glassford award is presented to either an assistant coach on one of the Golden Bears or Pandas teams, or a coach in the community that benefits Golden Bears and Pandas.

The recipient of this trophy must have coached for a minimum of five years. A key factor in his/her selection is that the University of Alberta must have benefited from this coaching, either through coaching our own athletes or by producing athletes that play on university teams. The winner shall have demonstrated long standing coaching excellence in the following areas: teaching ability, knowledge of the sport, and the ability to motivate the athletes he/she coaches.  The person’s teams must have demonstrated high levels of sportsmanship, and ability.
