EDMONTON - The depth of the U SPORTS No. 4 ranked Pandas came through on Friday night, as they improved to 7-0 in conference play with a 87-66 road win over the MacEwan Griffins.Â
All 12 dressed Pandas saw court time, with
Mackenzie Cook's 14 points leading the way for the visitors.
Emma Kary added 12, as did rookie
Nadeen Wu, who shot 4/5 in 12 minutes off the bench.Â
Alberta won the rebounding battle by a large margin (56-37, including 29 offensive boards) as their size in the paint was too much for the short-handed Griffins. Down three of their four tallest players due to injury – Mackenzie Farmer, Darian Mahmi and Makenzie Reeve – MacEwan made due as best as they could.
The Griffins started the game with just nine healthy bodies, which shrank to seven before the night was up with a pair of injuries. Noelle Kilbreath led MacEwan with a game-high 25 points, adding 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.Â
The Pandas held a lead of as much as 33 late in the second half, holding on for the 21-point win.Â
