EDMONTON - Four different Bears found the score sheet in a complete performance on Friday night, as Alberta earned a 4-1 home win over Trinity Western at Clare Drake Arena.Â
Matt Fontyne,
Ryan Hughes, Tyler Preziuso, and
Josh Prokop scored for Alberta, who topped the Spartans in their first-ever visit to Clare Drake Arena. Alberta outshot TWU 40-18, with
Nick Schneider making 17 saves to pick up his third win in four starts this season.Â
Despite giving up four goals to the U SPORTS #1 ranked Bears, Isaac LaBelle was terrific in net for the Spartans, making 36 saves in what could have been a much more lopsided final score.Â
Jarrett Penner scored his first career Canada West goal in the second, which stood as the lone TWU marker on Friday.Â
Fonteyne opened the scoring just five minutes into the opening frame, beating a screened LaBelle from the faceoff circle, with his second of the season giving Alberta an early lead. Hughes doubled the Bears lead with his first of the season, ripping a wrister over LaBelle's shoulder from the slot on the powerplay.Â
Preziuso, who has had a terrific start to his sophomore campaign, scored his fourth goal of the young season just 1:36 into the second, tapping in a cross-crease feed from
Nolan Volcan. TWU ramped up their defence for the remainder of the second, thanks in large part to 16 saves from LaBelle. Penner cut into the Alberta lead late in the second, trimming the Bears margin to 3-1.Â
Prokop iced the win, however, also scoring his fourth of the season midway through the third.Â
Alberta and TWU will take to the ice tomorrow in the rematch, scheduled for 7:00 pm at Clare Drake Arena.Â
