EDMONTON - A game in which the Pandas outshot the MacEwan Griffins 28-15, including 26-9 over the final two periods, saw the host Pandas earn a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Clare Drake Arena.Â
Two of the three Pandas goals came on the powerplay, along with a 15-save shutout via fourth-year Panda
Halle Oswald.
Danica Namaka,
Natalie Kieser, and Izzy Lajoie scored for Alberta, who earned the weekend sweep over the Griffins following their 2-1 win on Friday night.Â
Brianna Sank stopped 25 of the 28 Alberta shots she faced in the Griffins net.Â
The win pushes the Pandas atop the CW table, with a 3-1-0 record. MacEwan falls to 1-3-0 through two weeks of conference play.Â
Neither team generated much in the first, with MacEwan holding a 6-2 shot lead.Â
Alberta turned on the gas in the second, however, and never looked back. Namaka scored the eventual game-winner six minutes into the second, chipping a loose puck over Sank. Kieser doubled the Panda lead with a PP marker of her own, with her first of the season giving Alberta a 2-0 lead after 40.
Lajoie, the Pandas captain, put the game out of reach with her first of the season midway through the third.Â
The Pandas will look to extend their win streak next weekend, when they visit the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, BC.Â
