EDMONTON - A strong defensive performance, one that saw the home Pandas hold the MacEwan Griffins to just seven points in the second quarter, propelled the home-side to a 73-42 win on Saturday night at Saville Community Sports Centre.Â
The Pandas outscored the Pandas 18-7 in the second, and 41-15 over the middle two quarters, en route to the series split. The win is the 10th this season for the Pandas (10-2), while MacEwan falls to 3-11 this season.Â
Emma Kary led the Alberta attack for a second-straight night, pouring in a team-high 15 points on 6/12 shooting, with
Claire Signatovich adding 14 points and nine boards.Â
Mackenzie Farmer was the lone bright spot for the Griffins offence, as she finished with a game-high 17 points, adding six rebounds. As a team, the Griffins mustered just 27% shooting from the field, a stark contrast to their 85 points and 48% shooting performance on Friday.Â
After a tight opening quarter, the Pandas dominated in the second, sparked by a 21-0 run. MacEwan mustered just seven points and one made field goal, falling behind 34-20 at the half.
The Pandas defence was stellar again in the third, with the visitors mustering just two made field goals, getting outscored 23-8.Â
Up 57-28 after three, Alberta was able to cruise to a 31-point win to salvage the series split.Â
The Pandas will travel to Lethbridge next weekend and battle the 10-4 Pronghorns, while the Griffins will host the 4-10 Mount Royal Cougars in their final two regular season contests.Â
