VICTORIA – Despite registering its first goal of the season, the University of Victoria women's soccer team ultimately fell to the University of Alberta, 2-1, Sept. 10 at Centennial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

16th Minute – ALB 1, UVic 0
The Pandas put the first goal of the game on the board. After being stopped at the top of the box, Alberta's forward quickly recovered to get a shot off that sailed to the bottom left corner of the net for the lead.

30th Minute – ALB 2, UVic 0
Adding a second goal in the first half, the Pandas got the ball to one of their players in the crowded six-yard box, who sent the ball over the line to double the visitor's lead.

80th Minute – ALB 2, UVic 1
Netting her first career goal as a Vike, Ruby Nicholas corralled the deflection off of an Alberta defender and sent it over the line to bring the Vikes within one.

WORTH NOTING

• Nicholas' goal broke the Vikes' scoring slump, which saw them go scoreless in their first four games of the season.
• Having one final chance in stoppage time, the Vikes were awarded a corner. While Inara Jhawer managed to get her head on it, the ball went wide of the goal to end the game.
• Alberta finished with the 17-13 advantage in shots, and slight 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
• Both Kayley Lidstone and Autumn Wynn finished with seven saves on the night.
• Prior to taking over the UVic women's soccer program, Tracy David spent 16 seasons as the head coach at UofA.
• The Vikes are still searching for their first win of the season, falling to 0-4-1 on the season. Alberta returns to an even ledger at 2-2-0 with the win.
