EDMONTON - A balanced attack which saw all of their dressed players score, the U SPORTS No. 5 ranked Pandas cruised to a 71-50 win over the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday afternoon.
Unlike the previous night which saw them fall behind early, Alberta dominated from the opening tip-off in the rematch, leading for all by 25 seconds in the 21-point win. All 12 Pandas scored at least two points, led by 16 points and 14 rebounds from fourth-year forward
Claire Signatovich. It is the 17th career double-double for Signatovich, putting her three back of setting the new Pandas record.Â
The win is the fourth-straight for the Pandas, who improve to 4-2 in conference play. The loss drops UNBC to 2-4.Â
Morgan Harris added nine points and three rebounds, with fellow guard
Ella Rees contributing nine points and a team-high four steals. Alberta finished with a 62-34 advantage on the glass, which featured a staggering 25-6 edge on offensive rebounds. Those extra possessions turned into 23 more shot attempts for Alberta, a 44-8 advantage on points in the paint, and a 19-0 gap in second-chance points.Â
Amrit Manak led the Timberwolves with 17 points, making half (4/8) of her shots from beyond the arc. Viktoriia Filatova added 15 on 5/12 shooting, with the duo combining for 64% of their teams points in the loss. UNBC struggled to generate open looks, finishing the game making just 28% of their shots.Â
Alberta raced out to an early 19-8 lead after the first, leading by 25 at the half. The Pandas biggest lead came late in the third, with the homeside jumping ahead by 30 (63-33).Â
Alberta will visit the Calgary Dinos next weekend in the final series of 2023.Â
