EDMONTON - Sophomore goalie
Misty Rey stopped all 22 Manitoba shots she faced, including 15 in the first period, leading the U SPORTS No. 5 ranked Pandas to a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
Natalie Kieser scored the lone Pandas goal, deflecting in a point-shot early in the second period. The Pandas have now picked up four-consecutive shutout wins, with all three of their goalies earning at least one of their shutout wins over the last two weeks. Alberta earned a 6-0 win over Manitoba on Friday night.Â
The Pandas record for consecutive shutouts is six, which they have done twice (2000/01 and 2017/18).Â
Meagan Ralf stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced, rebounding nicely after allowing four goals on 10 shots in Friday night's start.Â
Coming off their lopsided loss on Friday, Manitoba started Saturday's game a new team, outshooting Alberta 15-4. Dana Goertzen led the Bisons with three shots, none of which found their way past Rey, who now has three wins and two shutouts in three starts this season.Â
Alberta turned the tide in the second, with Kieser tipping in
Taylor Anker's point shot on the powerplay. Anker finished the weekend with four points, three shots and a +4 rating.Â
The Bisons struggled to generate offence over the last 40 minutes, firing just seven shots on net, including just three in the final period.Â
Alberta (12-2-2) will battle the MacEwan Griffins next weekend to close out 2023, while Manitoba (6-8-2) will start their winter break early with a bye next weekend.Â
