MONTREAL - In thrilling fashion, the Pandas Tennis team captured their fourth-straight Tennis Canada University Championship with a 4-3 win over the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon.
With the match tied 3-3, sophomore Panda
Alexandra Jewitt clinched the title by winner her #2 singles match in a third set tie break. After losing the doubles point, the Pandas needed to win four of the six singles matches to capture a fourth national title in a row.Â

The Pandas are just the third team in UofA history to win four or more national titles in a row, joining Pandas Rugby, who won five-straight from 1999-2003, and Pandas Volleyball, who won six-straight from 1995-2000.Â
During their current national title streak, the Pandas own a 29-1 win/loss record, dating back to the start of the 2018/19 season. Over those four years, the Pandas are 140-37 combined in singles and doubles matches.
After dropping their doubles match, Jewitt and
Emma Rutherford both responded with wins in their respective singles matches, including a dominant 6-4, 6-4 win for Rutherford in the top singles match. Rutherford, now a three-time national champion herself, was named the Tournament MVP after going a combined 3-1 in Montreal.Â
Veterans
Jessica Kreutz and
Sandra Taskovic also earned singles wins on Sunday, with both Pandas going a perfect 4-0 over the weekend.Â
Ivan Quintero and
Kyle Sluchinski were also named Co-recipients of the Female Team Coach of the Year award.Â
