EDMONTON - Three goals in the opening 22 minutes was enough to propel the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Alberta Pandas on Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.Â
Caitlin Stove scored the opener inside five minutes, followed by a pair of goals from Alyssa D'Agnone. Huskie keeper Nadia Kalyar was terrific in the win, stopping 10 of the 11 Pandas shots she faced.Â
Adrienne Poulin, who finished third in Canada West with 10 goals a year ago, scored the Pandas only goal on Sunday, her first of the season.Â
QUICK HITTERS
- Despite the loss, Alberta outshot Saskatchewan 14-11, including 11-6 on target.Â
- Alberta also held a 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, but struggled maintaining possession deep in the Saskatchewan half.Â
- Sunday was the Huskies first win over the Pandas since October 22, 2019. Since the start of the 2017 season, the Pandas are 4-2-2 against the Huskies.Â
- Kalyar made six saves in the second half alone, nullifying any hope of an Alberta comeback.Â
UP NEXT
- The 0-1-1 Pandas will visit the Manitoba Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend.
- The 1-1-0 Huskies will have an off week, before hosting Manitoba and Winnipeg in Saskatoon in two weeks.Â
