EDMONTON - Third-year Panda
Maia Ehmann scored twice in the second period, with
Sara Kazeil adding three assists in a season-opening 4-0 Alberta win over MacEwan.Â
It is the first multi-goal game for Ehmann as a Panda, as she was the catalyst of an offence that dominated the Griffins from the opening faceoff. Alberta outshot MacEwan 33-6 in the game, including 13-1 in the third period.
Grace Glover made six saves to earn the shutout. Remarkably, Glover has earned a shutout in all four games she has played in her university career, stopping all 53 shots she has faced.Â
Abby Soyko and
Brooklyn Tews added insurance markers for Alberta in the third period. The win was also the 430th conference victory for Pandas head coach
Howie Draper, who is now just 10 wins back of Laurie Eisler for the most in UofA history. The Pandas are also now 41-0 all-time against MacEwan.Â
Brianna Sank stopped 29 of the 33 shots she faced in the Griffins crease.Â
After a scoreless first, the Pandas found the board midway through the second, with Ehmann scoring the first of her two on the night. She doubled the Pandas lead late in the frame.Â
Both of the Pandas goals in the third period came on the powerplay, as the home team quickly put the game out of reach.Â
The Edmonton foes will meet again tomorrow night, with. the rematch hosted by MacEwan at the Downtown Community Arena.Â
