KELOWNA - Canada West Champion Ron MacLean placed 10th at the U SPORTS Championship in Kelowna, earning a spot on the second All-Canadian team. MacLean is the first Bear to be a U SPORTS All-Canadian since Jamie Weikium placed 14th in 2008. His 10th place finish is the best by a Bear since Adrian Lambert placed 7th in 2005.Â
MacLean was followed by teammate Will Cebuliak, who placed 16th in his final varsity race. The Bears placed 12th overall.Â
Queen's captured their first national title in men's cross-country since 1984, and their fourth overall. The top Gaels runner placed 13th, but all five of their runners placed inside the top 30.Â
Laval's Phillipe Morneau-Cartier shone on the fast and flat course, winning the men's individual title. The reigning U SPORTS Champion repeated as the individual gold medalist, pulling away on the final lap to post a time of 23 minutes and 19 seconds.
Thanks to three runners placing inside the top 14, the Western Mustangs earned their first U SPORTS Women's XC Championship title since 1984.Â
