Pandas complete sweep with OT win

Lajoie nets winner late in overtime to secure series sweep

EDMONTON - Izzy Lajoie potted in her own rebound late in overtime, securing a 2-1 win for the Alberta Pandas over the Regina Cougars on Saturday afternoon.

Lajoie's two shots in tight were the 41st and 42nd shots on net for the Pandas, who finished the weekend with 89 shots on the Regina net. Cougars starter Natalie Williamson was absolutely terrific for the visitors, making 40 saves, including a handful of highlight-reel stops in the third period and start of overtime to keep Regina alive.

Grace Glover made 21 saves for Alberta, who improve to 9-3-0 with their fourth-straight win. Ryann Perrett scored her third goal of the season in the second for Alberta, while Olivia Leggett scored her first of the season for Regina in the first.

Over the two-game set, Alberta out-shot Regina 89-24, who earned their 15th and 16th consecutive wins over the Cougars. The Pandas now own a three-point lead over the Cougar (6-3-3) for top spot in the East Division of Canada West.

Leggett got the visitors on the board first, as her shot from the slot hit a body in front, and sailed over the shoulder of Glover into the Alberta net. That was the only blemish for Glover, who picked up her fourth win of the season on Saturday.

Williamson stopped all 14 Alberta shots she faced in the first, as Regina was heavily out-shot again in the opening frame.

Perrett evened the game early in the second, beating a helpless Williamson on a scramble in the crease.

The team's played an even third period, with Williamson making a pair of key saves late to send the game to overtime.

Both Glover and Williamson made key saves to keep the game tied in OT, with Glover making a breakaway stop on Paige Hubbard, before Williamson stoned Jadynn Morden on the doorstep.

The tie was short-lived, as Lajoie netted her first of the season just moments later.
