EDMONTON -
Madison Willan scored twice, to go along with a goal from graduating athlete
Megan Wilson, as the U SPORTS No. 6 Alberta Pandas earned a 4-1 win over the Trinity Western Spartans.Â
Allison Reich also scored for Alberta, with
Halle Oswald stopping 20 of the 21 TWU shots she faced in the win. Alberta concludes Canada West play with a 21-3-4 record, and will host a semifinal series in two weeks as the No. 2 seed.Â
Â
Oswald earned her 55th career win on Saturday, and 12th of the 2023/24 season. The win moves her past Dana Vinge (2006-2010) for second all-time in Pandas history, and fourth in Canada West history.Â
Oswald also finishes her career as the Canada West all-time leader in goals against average (1.14), second in shutouts (22), and second in save percentage (.943).Â
Brooklyn Anderson scored the lone Spartans goal, as they finish conference play with an 8-18-2 record, and out of the playoff picture in seventh.Â
Unlike Friday's contest, in which Trinity came out with 13 shots, Alberta controlled play early on Saturday. Willan scored twice in the opening frame, her eighth and ninth goals of the season, along with Wilson's second. The trio of goals chased TWU starter Mabel Maltais from the crease.Â
After an uneventful second, the Spartans finally broke the goose egg thanks to Anderson's ninth of the season 22 seconds into the third.Â
Reich potted a shorthanded goal midway through the third to restore the Pandas three-goal lead.Â
