EDMONTON - After an early third period goal gave Regina a 3-1 lead, the Golden Bears offence finally warmed up, scoring five unanswered to steal a 6-3 win.Â
de la Gorgendiere and Hall each scored twice in the third period, with the McClennon-Tschigerl-Hyland driving the Bears comeback in the third. Tschigerl started the comeback with his 15th of the season six minutes into the third, followed quickly by de la Gorgendiere 2:22 later to tie the game.Â
Despite allowing four goals in the third period, Cougars starter Adam Evanoff was terrific in the first 40 minutes, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced. However he was unable to single handedly stop the Alberta offensive onslaught in the third period. Tyler Palmer made 18 saves as his record improves to 11-2-0 in his rookie campagin.Â
Carson Whyte, Noah Wilis, and Matt Culling scored for Regina, who fall to 3-17-0 this season.Â
The winners of five-straight, the 18-4-0 Golden Bears will visit the 16-4-0 Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend in a series that will likely determine the East Divison champs.Â
Whyte opened the scoring midway through the first, taking advantage of a Bears turnover deep in their own end. Hyland tied the game just four minutes later, beating Evanoff with his 10th of the season with a wrist-shot from the slot.Â
In a physical and even second period, Regina was the only team to score, with Wilis tipping in a Eric Pearce point shot for his first career goal. Culling doubled the Regina lead early in the third, beating Palmer off a scramble in the crease.Â
Coinciding with the rink staff turning on the heat in a frigid Clare Drake Arena in the third period, Alberta's offence also warmed up down two goals. After Tschigerl cut the lead in half, de la Gorgendiere scored back-to-back goals to give Alberta their first lead of the game.Â
Hall's tremendous shorthanded goal was the insurance marker for the Bears, before he added an empty net tally.Â
