Tanner's career-high gives Pandas 11th straight win

Tanner scores 20, Pandas sweep Cougars to improve to 14-2

EDMONTON – Fourth-year guard Jayden Tanner scored a career-high 20 points, leading the Alberta Pandas to a 75-50 win over Regina on Saturday night.

Tanner, who was also the primary defender on Cougars star Jade Belmore, made six of her 16 shots to lead the game in scoring. The Pandas absolutely suffocated the Cougars offence, holding Regina to 50 points on 30.5% shooting, including a paltry 3/16 from beyond the arc.

With the important sweep, the Pandas now sit a full two games ahead of Regina, sporting a division-best 14-2 record, and in the driver's seat to host at least one weekend of playoffs.

Annacy Palmer added 18 points on 5/11 shooting for Alberta, who have now won 11-straight conference games. Claire Signatovich recorded her fifth double-double of the season, grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with 10 points.

Belmore led Regina in scoring for the second night in a row, recording 17 points and 11 rebounds. However, she was held to just six made shots on 15 attempts after her terrific 28-point performance on Friday night.

Tanner, Palmer, and Friday night star Reece Hall combined for 21 early points for Alberta, who trailed by one after the first quarter. Belmore, Rachel Vanderhooft, and Izzi Fust had 21 in the first, by far the most competitive quarter on Friday.

Alberta started heating up in the second, sparked by an early 12-2 run. After a surge from Regina, the Pandas closed the half on an 8-0 run, taking a 10-point lead into the break.

Another offensive burst in the third took the wind out of Regina's sails. After Friday's overtime thriller in which Belmore played all but five seconds, the Cougars didn't have the legs to compete on Saturday.

The Pandas outscored Regina 18-7 in the fourth to put the game away.
