EDMONTON - Scoring her ninth goal in 10 games in 2025,
Abby Soyko led the Pandas to a 2-1 home win over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena.Â
Scoreless through 40, Soyko and
Izzy Lajoie scored consecutive goals in the third period, which was enough to overcome a late Bisons surge.Â
Sophomore Panda
Grace Glover made 23 saves, including nine in the third period to pick up her 12th win in 14 games this season. Allowing a goal in the final minute, Glover's shutout streak ended at 288:55, the fourth-longest streak in Canada West history. Glover had entered Friday's tilt sporting three-straight clean sheets.Â
The win for the Pandas is also their 12th-straight, who now own a 23-3-1 record with one regular season game remaining. The loss drops Manitoba to 13-10-2, who have the Regina Cougars breathing down their neck for the second seed in the East Division.
Ashley Keller scored the lone Bisons goal, as her second of the season trimmed the Pandas lead in half in the final minute. Emily Shippam stopped 18 of the 20 saves for the Bisons, who held their own throughout Friday's game.Â
Glover and Shippam combined for 14 saves each through 40 minutes, in what was largely an uneventful first two periods.Â
Lajoie finally broke the deadlock early in the third, beating Shippam on the powerplay for her fourth of the season. Soyko doubled the Pandas lead just three minutes later, beating the Bisons goalie on a beautiful solo rush.Â
Keller's second of the season came too late for Manitoba, who pressed with scoring chances in the final five minutes.Â
The two sides will meet again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in Edmonton.Â
