Biography

Following a stellar playing career at the University of Saskatchewan, Laurie Eisler took over as the head coach of the Pandas Volleyball team prior to the 1991/92 season.

Since taking over in 1991, Eisler turned the Pandas into one of the most dominant volleyball programs in Canada. In her 30 seasons with the Pandas, Eisler has won six national titles (1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2007), 10 conference titles (1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2017) and earned nine other national medals, including a U SPORTS Bronze in 2022.

She has been named the Canada West Coach of the Year in 1990 (Saskatchewan), 1994, 1995, 1996, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2017, and the U SPORTS Coach of the Year in 1995, 2003, and 2004.

Eisler is also the winningest coach in University of Alberta history with 852 overall wins. She became the winningest coach in school history on February 24, 2017, when she passed Clare Drake’s record of 720 career wins. Her 430 conference wins are also the most in school history.

At the University of Saskatchewan, Eisler (nee Baber) was a four-time Canada West All-Star a CIAU All-Canadian, and a 1984 Canada West Champion. Eisler served as the Huskies head coach in 1989/90, and was named the Canada West Coach of the Year, before moving on to Edmonton in 1991, taking a Pandas squad which had not won a conference title since the 1959-60 season.

Eisler has also coached at the provincial, national and international levels, including being the head coach of the Canadian FISU team for the 2019 Summer Universiade Games in Napoli, Italy.
