The Pandas, the three-time defending national champions, were dominant in their win over Calgary on Saturday. Alberta captured all three doubles matches, before dropping just one set in six singles matches. The depth of the Pandas was the separating factor, as the No. 3 through 6 singles matches were won by a combined 48-11 point margin.Â
The Alberta men made quick work of Manitoba in the semifinal on Friday, going 24-3 in doubles, before winning all six singles matches in straight-sets. Saturday's final was more tense, with Calgary squeaking out a pair of singles wins. However, a strong showing from
Jared Maclean, who was the only Bear to go undefeated in both singles and doubles against Calgary, clinched the victory.Â
The Bears now own 7-0 match record this season, while the Pandas are 5-1.Â
With their wins in Prairie Regional tournament, the Bears & Pandas will now host the Western Canadian Championship against the UBC Thunderbirds, March 4th at 5th at Saville. The winners of the Western Championship will advance to the 2023 Tennis Canada University Championships in August.Â
