Cruising to a 5-2 victory over the Western Mustangs in Toronto, the Golden Bears tennis program captured their third
BearsTang Cup. This marks the third title for the Bears, to go along with wins in 2018 and 2020.Â
An annual competition between the Bears and Mustangs, this year marked the first time the visiting team had ever won the
BearsTang Cup. Western won in 2019, with the 2021 and 2022 events canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.Â
Competing in Toronto, the Bears also picked up a 5-2 win over the York Lions on Friday night.
Jared Maclean,
James Kwan and
Jose Lopez Peterson each went undefeated in their singles matches against York and Western, with Kwan and
Ethan Oboniye also winning both of their doubles matches. The Bears will host the
BearsTang Cup in 2024.Â
Following their wins, the Bears are now 5-0 this season, owning a 25-9 match record.Â
