VANCOUVER – The Sports Illustrated Clubhouse Colleges Cup concluded on Sunday evening after two days of top-tier swimming action with teams from across Western Canada. UBC's women's team claimed first place with 1247.5 points, followed by the University of Calgary Dinos in second with 869.5 points and Team BC in third with 695.5 points. UBC's men's team also triumphed, scoring 1327 points, while the Dinos finished second with 893 and the University of Alberta Golden Bears secured third with 458.
Third-year Golden Bear
Minh Nguyen paced the Golden Bears with four medals over the weekend in Vancouver, included a pair of individual bronze medals. In total, Alberta earned seven medals over the weekend, six of which coming from the Golden Bears. Nguyen — who earned three bronze medals at the 2023 Canada West Championship — earned bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, to go along with a bronze in the 200m medley relay, and a bronze in the 4x100m medley relay.Â
Garrett Brendzan was also on both relay teams, adding a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke to his weekend total. First-year Bear
Paul McKenzie earned the highest finish of any UofA swimmer, placing second in the 400m freestyle.Â
Gabrielle Dunn picked up the lone Panda medal, placing third in the 800m freestyle.Â
The Thunderbirds will host the 2024 Canada West Championship, November 22nd to 24th at the UBC Aquatic Centre.Â
